NEF is a launching pad for funders’ collaborative. Our focus is on enabling better and more strategic collaboration between foundations.
Increasing philanthropic impact by providing a space for collaboration, learning and regranting through donor collaboratives.
European Solidarity through Philanthropy contributes to social cohesion and democracy across Europe.
NEF is part of the European Philanthropic Infrastructure. Within this eco system, NEF collaborates with a wide range of foundation networks, including the European Foundation Centre, EVPA, DAFNE, ARIADNE … Those organisations serve as representative bodies for the philanthropic community while NEF’s distinctive value lies in its expertise in re-granting through pooled funding.
A pooled fund is a funding mechanism where multiple funders contribute their financial and social resources and invest jointly in a portfolio of grants.
NEF’s main body is the General Assembly (GA) that approves the pooled funds hosted by NEF. The NEF GA elects the Board of Directors that supervises the day to day running of the association.
The NEF back office team works to embed the different pooled funds into the NEF structure, in terms of policies, practices and work culture.
At a pooled fund level, strategic decisions are taken by the Steering Committee (representing the foundations behind the fund).
The management team of the pooled fund (its secretariat) will work in coordination with the NEF back office on the roll out of the operations. Each pooled fund has a dedicated secretariat, usually based in Brussels at the Philanthropy House, within the NEF offices.
